From Twp Clerk Cory Bostwick to Twp Mgr Chad Young:
Could we address at the board meeting the topic that Mr. Ward brought up the last meeting regarding MEDC suggesting that this a Mundy supported project. Maybe Mr. Beltzer could just draw up a letter but I think it would be a subject that should have board discussion on
Response from Twp Mgr Chad Young:
Greetings Cory,
A fair request, though I do wish to take this opportunity to note a couple things pertinent to the subject. As follows:
1) You mentioned MEDC (state organization) in your email, but I believe you mean FGEA (Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance). At least FGEA is who the website belongs to that Mr. Ward referenced during the last board meeting.
2) I personally looked further into the webpage that Kyle referenced following this topic being raised at the prior board meeting. There were several informational inaccuracies that I noticed beyond the vague reference to municipal support, including: notes about the presence of substantial regulated wetlands (there aren’t); the lack of public water service now or EVER in the future (there currently is industrial scale water available on Maple); the existence of onsite water wells that could support industrial capacity (there aren’t, and our ordinance requirements would not permit well service for such a site); and, drain and storm water considerations/regulations that identified the local governing jurisdiction as LIVINGSTON COUNTY. That last one is pretty self-explanatory…
The examples above are not exhaustive, but obviously this site included numerous factual errors and/or oversights that appear to be, well, recycled from elsewhere. Following my own perusal, I did reach out to FGEA to let them know of the concern raised during the board meeting and inaccuracies I noticed upon visiting the website in question. I spoke to Mr. Rossmaessler directly, who: pulled up the site with me in real time; identified the sections that included various misstatements; indicated he was unsure as to their origin; agreed they should not be included; removed the erroneous information/sections immediately; and, offered his apologies about the situation.
So, to cut to the chase, I believe the concern/issue as raised by your email and Mr. Ward during the prior meeting has been adequately addressed and corrected. The Board may, of course, discuss this topic (or any other) at the next meeting, but I wanted to provide this information and context prior to. Additionally, with all this noted, I do not believe it’s necessary or appropriate at this point to have the township attorney draft any communication regarding the subject.
Best,
Chad Young
